Java Image I/O Support for reading and displaying images with compressed transfer syntaxes depends on the availability of native or pure Java Image I/O (JIIO) codecs. Conversion from consumer formats (com.pixelmed.dicom.ImageToDicom) also depends on the JIIO codecs.
